Arthritis At Home Episode 105 – Pregnancy experience while living with rheumatoid arthritis
In this episode of Arthritis At Home, Ms. Serina Khangura speaks to us about her pregnancy experience, including her pregnancy considerations with rheumatoid arthritis, talking to her family, support system and health professionals about becoming pregnant, her preparation for pregnancy and her journey through her first 18 weeks.
Ms. Serina Khangura was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis 7 years ago. She is a Chartered Professional Accountant and works with Vancouver Coastal Health as a Senior Internal Auditor. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, practicing yoga, running, and spending time with her husband and puppy, Jovi. Serina loves to travel and has had the opportunity to explore parts of Asia, Europe and North America. Early on in her diagnosis, she did not fully understand the severity of her disease. This resulted in severe joint damage in her right shoulder which required a total shoulder replacement at the age of 31. Through this experience, she came to realize how her lack of knowledge and understanding could lead to irreversible damage to her joints. Through appropriate medical treatment and mental and emotional support, she has been able to control her disease and live a very happy and healthy life. Serina now helps others better understand rheumatoid arthritis, the importance of early treatment, and the resources available in our community for both physical and mental support.
